Certified rope access tradesmen & technicians

Rope access work only goes as well as the people on the ropes. Our technicians, industrial abseilers, are the trained and certified crew who do complex work at height in Melbourne where scaffolding or an EWP is not practical: high-rise facades, awkward architecture, the parts of a building nothing else reaches.

They hold IRATA/ARAA certification, the industry ticket that covers rope access technique, equipment use and rescue, with supervisors trained to the ARAA competency standard. Most also carry a White Card for construction sites and a Working at Heights ticket, and many are certified to operate EWPs.

Safety and the rules they work to

Work at height runs to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and the OHS Regulations 2017. Rope access is a Level 3 control under WorkSafe Victoria, used only when removing the fall risk (Level 1) and passive protection like scaffolding or an EWP (Level 2) are not practical, and it demands more competency and supervision than either.

Before any work with a fall risk over two metres, a Safe Work Method Statement is written. It sets out the hazards, the equipment, the crew’s qualifications and the controls, and the job then runs to that statement. Rescue is planned in too. Whenever a fall-arrest harness is in use there is a second trained person on site who can reach the first quickly, because a person left hanging is a medical emergency.

Our technicians also install and certify the anchor points the work hangs off, to Australian standards. Fixed anchors in regular use are inspected by a competent person at least every six months, and any anchor found impaired is tagged and left out of use until it has been repaired and re-inspected.

What they do

The trade is far more than window cleaning. Off ropes our crews paint and restore facades, clean and repair facade surfaces with soft washing or chemical treatment where it is needed, re-caulk and seal joints against water and draughts, and design, install, repair and certify anchor points. The same access covers bird spike installation, high dusting inside and out, and gutter clearing on high-rise roofs.

What it costs

We quote on the job. The price moves on the height and how complicated the building is to work on, the scope and condition of the work from a routine clean to facade repairs, the certified crew and the paperwork the job requires, and the timing if it has to run after hours. Tell us the trade you need done at height, and we will put a certified rope access crew to it.

Frequently asked questions

What qualifications should I check when hiring rope access technicians?

Look for technicians certified by IRATA or ARAA. These qualifications confirm training in industrial abseiling, safe rigging and emergency rescue procedures. Contractors must comply with WorkSafe Victoria rules. This includes preparing a detailed Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) before starting any high-risk work involving fall hazards over two metres.

How do rope access tradesmen prevent accidents on high-rise buildings?

Safety starts with compliance under the Victorian OHS Act and OHS Regulations. Rope access uses Level 3 work-positioning controls with certified gear, including harnesses, ropes and anchors. Work rules require a second trained technician on site at all times to perform an immediate rescue if a fall occurs, preventing suspension trauma.

Can rope access technicians do trade work other than window cleaning?

Rope access technicians carry trade qualifications alongside abseiling skills. They handle specialised maintenance tasks, including high-access abseiling painting, exterior caulking, joint sealing and full facade repairs. Technicians also install and certify roof anchor points to meet Australian safety standards, reaching hard-to-access areas without installing heavy scaffolding.

How much does it cost to hire rope access tradesmen in Melbourne?

Costs depend on building height, layout complexity and total surface area. The type of trade work also dictates price, such as simple window cleaning compared to structural repairs. Quotes reflect required trade skills, equipment, compliance documentation and safety systems needed for work at height in Melbourne. Site consultations are free.

How often do roof anchor points need safety checks?

Permanently fixed anchor points in regular use must be inspected by a competent person at least every six months. Technicians perform a visual check on every anchor before attaching ropes. If an anchor shows any sign of damage, workers tag it out immediately until a competent person repairs and recertifies it.

What affects the price of rope access tradesmen & technicians

Every building is quoted after we have seen it. These are the factors that move the number up or down - ask us about any of them and we will explain how they apply to your site.

Height and access methodRope access, elevated work platform or suspended platform - the method is chosen for the building, and it sets the crew size and setup time.
Surface area and conditionHeavy soiling, salt, traffic film or construction residue take longer and need specialised products.
Facade complexityRecesses, angled or domed glazing, tight gaps between buildings and heritage detailing all slow the descent down.
Access and anchor pointsBuildings with certified anchor points are quicker to set up. If there are none, temporary systems or installation are quoted separately.
SchedulingWork outside trading hours, staged access or occupied tenancies affect the programme. Regular maintenance cycles are cheaper per visit than one-off jobs.

Quotes are free and carry no obligation. Where the work is subject to a compliance requirement, the quote states which standard it is carried out to.

What documents a contractor must give you after height work

After rope access or facade work on your building, the contractor owes you a set of documents, not just an invoice.
